Russell Gann is presently serving as the Director for Medical Informatics and Modernization for Vinnell Arabia at the Ministry of the National Guard, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Health Affairs Directorate. He just finished a 3-year employment with the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia as Surveillance Coordinator and Project Manager. He has had broad education, training, and over 30 years of experience in the United States and abroad in developing, managing, implementing, evaluating and improving informatics development assistance projects; mobile applications for surveillance and alerting and advising US Government, UN agencies, WHO agencies, NGOs and national public; and private Health sector counterparts on various aspects of surveillance science and health services research, and on assessing and improving the policies and practice of public health, monitoring & evaluation, and logistics management. While serving as a CDC Informatician, Russell Gann provided technical assistance and training at the request of the U.S. State Department, Department of Defense and WHO, and in Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the Ministry of Health. As the Program Manager located in the Division of Informatics Solutions and Operations (DISO), Public Health Informatics and Technology Program Office (PHITPO), Office of Surveillance, Epidemiology and Laboratory Services (OSELS), functioned as a program manager and Associate Director for Technology, responsible for the overall direction and coordination of multiple programs for the development and implementation of advanced IT surveillance and informatics systems and frameworks for common or shared components to promote interoperability and compatibility for all health informatics systems.
